Creating Self Identity in the Media
Purpose of the Project
The unit we are currently studying in English is self identification in the media. The media is its own entity - it plays a massive part in the way our society functions and heavily influences our daily lives. It only makes sense that we feel a need to identify who we are through media pieces. I have chosen two pieces that I enjoy to analyze with the given learning goals. The first is a film that I have loved ever since it first came out in 2004: Shrek 2. The second is a newer piece that I feel is very relevant at the moment: a song called Lost Generation by Rizzle Kicks. These media pieces do have a profound influence on my self identification - Shrek 2 was a very big part of my childhood. Whenever I would go round to my Grandmas house all she owned was Shrek 2, so that's what we would watch. However, Rizzle Kicks' song names and shames the generation that I am currently a part of. The media does have a profound influence on my life and the people around me and it was interesting to take a step back and analyse it from an outsiders perspective before relating it to myself and my daily life.
